THE CINEMATIC DRAWING SESSIONS 03 

• STUDIES IN MOTION

  On Thursday, 4 August 2022, Dewald Veldsman and Marcii Magson will take you back in time to 1884.

  They will introduce you to a remarkable man, Eadweard Muybridge, and his photographic studies of motion.

  Muybridge made his most important photographic studies of motion from 1884 to 1887. These consisted of photographs of various activities of human figures, clothed and naked, which were to form a visual compendium of human movements for the use of artists and scientists.
  

  The workshop will be split into two parts, on either side of a dinner: Chicken Korma with crunchy greens and fragrant coconut rice.

  Join us for a drawing session evening on Cinematic ‘Studies in Motion’ Drawing.  
  

  We will draw the gestures of animals and humans and learn how to study poses through the observation of cinematic motion studies. By practicing gesture drawing, you can learn how to make stronger poses that express a feeling and show the figure in motion.
  

  Part 1: A sequence of Cinematic Projection Plates - From the Eadweard Muybridge Collection -  Quick warm-up sketches moving on to studies in which participants will experiment with techniques demonstrated by Dewald. 
  

  Part 2: Printed Plates handed out to participants to work on 1/2 more detailed Artwork while listening to specifically curated music playlists.
