THE RIGHT HAND
The one who will help hold BELLHAUS
A PROFILE FOR OUR STUDIO & OPERATIONS ASSISTANT
BELLHAUS Atelier & Galerie · 18 Bell Street, Windhoek
Who we are
BELLHAUS is a house. A century old, on Bell Street in Windhoek’s old Grüner Kranz — a working gallery where art is not admired from a polite distance, but made, shared, eaten, worn and lived. A painting, a loaf of bread, a hand-thrown bowl and a jar of balm all belong to the same conversation. The walls breathe. Nothing is behind glass.
It is several worlds under one roof: the gallery and atelier; the KIN Table, where we gather around slow, seasonal food and remember that no one is a solitary traveller; and Wonderveld, our handmade apothecary of soil and spirit. Around them lives a community of Namibian makers, through the Everyday Art Collection.
It is not a shop with a beautiful aesthetic. It is a sanctuary for the restless soul — a place where beauty, made by hand and shared without pretense, still matters. When you walk in, you are met not as a customer, but as kin.
Before anything else, spend time at www.bellhaus.art — it holds the whole of who we are. If it moves you, read on.
Why this role exists
Until now, the whole of BELLHAUS at the highest level — its concepts, words, images, marketing and operations — has been held by a single mind. There are willing hands for the making and the kitchen, and yet the founder is still pulled down into it all day long: stuck at the stove, out collecting and carting, buried in errands — and never free to look forward. The thinking, the holding and the running have rested on one person alone.
That is not how beautiful things last. We are looking for the person who will take up the running of the house — the operations, the logistics, the daily moving parts — so the founder is freed from the low ground to do the one thing only she can do: imagine what comes next. Not to replace the vision, but to make it real, to keep it standing, and to guard the space in which it is dreamed.
The role, in one breath
The Right Hand stewards the working life of BELLHAUS so its founder can create. You are part of everything: the whole journey of an exhibition; the art supper clubs, workshops and events; the gathering of beautiful things — fresh bread from the bakers, produce from the markets, works from our makers; and the systems and logistics that hold it all together. Varied, hands-on work — lived among art, food, and the people who move through the haus.
Yes, part of it is practical and physical — sourcing, collecting, setting up. But it is one thread in a rich whole: a life lived inside the making of beautiful things, not behind a desk. It is a beautiful thing to be part of.
Who you are
This matters more than any single skill. We can teach tools; we cannot teach character.
- Deeply organised. You close loops, you finish, you remember the thing everyone else forgot. Order is your quiet art.
- Calm and steadying. Under pressure you grow quieter, not louder. You are the still point when the day is loud.
- Warm and discreet. You hold the trust of the house — its people, its private moments — with care.
- Attuned to beauty. You feel why the details matter here, and you protect them without being told.
- Fluent in art and aesthetics. You understand and love art. You have moved in the world of galleries, ateliers, design, hospitality or the creative life — and you understand the kind of people who come to a space like ours, and the slow, considered way they move through it. An operations background in an unrelated world (heavy industry, a slaughterhouse) is simply not this.
- The right tempo. You match the pace of a slow, intentional house — unhurried, present and considered, yet utterly dependable.
- Resourceful and self-directed. You see what is needed and you do it. You do not wait to be handed a list.
- A maker of order from chaos. You love turning a swirl of ideas into a clear plan with dates, steps and follow-through.
- Grounded, not competing for the vision. Your deepest satisfaction is in making someone else’s vision real — and doing it beautifully.
What you will carry
The life of the haus
- The whole journey of an exhibition — from the first idea to the hang, the opening night, and the quiet takedown — carried through with you at its heart.
- The art supper clubs, the workshops and the events — set up, brought to life, and hosted, so each one lands beautifully.
- Being among the people — welcoming the artists, guests and community who move through the haus, and making them feel held.
The gathering — bringing beauty home
- The KIN Table journey — choosing fresh bread from the bakers, produce from the markets, the good things that become the day’s table.
- The Everyday Art Collection — sourcing pieces and provisions from our makers, and bringing them home to the haus.
- Collecting, delivering and installing works — to and from the gallery, framers and makers — with real care.
One beautiful thread of the role among many — and the reason your own car is essential.
Ideas, brought to ground
- Taking the founder’s concepts and turning them into real projects — with timelines, checklists and follow-through.
- Running each happening from first plan to final packdown, so nothing is left to the last hour.
The steady structure
- The calendar and rhythm of the haus — knowing what is coming and readying for it.
- Admin and correspondence — email, enquiries, bookings, replies.
- Suppliers, orders and stock — keeping the haus provisioned.
- Money in order — invoices, records, payments tracked and tidy, alongside the founder.
- The online shop — Shopify orders and fulfilment across BELLHAUS, KIN Table and Wonderveld.
Lifting the load from the founder
- Taking the day-to-day running of the KIN Table and the making team, so the founder is no longer pulled to the stove.
- Being the steady hand everything can lean on when a pair is short.
- Guarding the founder’s focus — filtering the noise, protecting the creative time — so the vision can move forward.
Supporting the word and image
The founder remains the voice and the eye of BELLHAUS; here you simply help carry it into the world.
- Scheduling and posting the content the founder shapes, and replying to the community.
- Gathering photos, details and pieces, and keeping the marketing calendar moving.
Woven together, it is a beautiful thing to be part of — a life lived inside the making of beautiful things.
What this is not
You are not expected to be the visionary. BELLHAUS already has its creative mind. Your artistry is in execution, order and follow-through — you are the one who makes the vision real and keeps it standing. That is no small thing. In a house like this, it is everything.
What you bring
- Aesthetic literacy and real experience in this world — crucial. A proven track record in a gallery, atelier, design studio, hospitality, events or creative retail, ready to show. You already understand how a space like this feels, moves and runs — and an operations background in an unrelated field is simply not the fit.
- A genuine love and understanding of art and beauty — felt, not decorative. Art moves you.
- Your own reliable car and a valid driver’s licence — non-negotiable. Part of this role is sourcing, collecting and delivering; without your own wheels, it cannot be done.
- Physically able and willing — lifting, carrying, setting up, on your feet and on the move.
- Comfort with the everyday tools — email, spreadsheets, social media, and Shopify or similar.
- Above all — reliability, taste, discretion and heart.
How we work together
We work closely and honestly. You would join a team of five women — honest, hardworking, quick to laugh and glad to work hard — who gather often to dream, plan, and make beautiful, one-of-a-kind things happen, in a setting like nowhere else. You will have real responsibility and real trust from the start, and the founder’s ear. In return we ask care, discretion, and follow-through — the loops you take on are the loops you close. This is a small haus with a large soul; the right person will feel it the moment they walk in.
