The Poetry Club — Second Gathering | Thursday 19 September

    Regular price N$480.00

Join us for the second evening of The Poetry Club — our monthly gathering at BELLHAUS, presented together with the Finnish Southern Africa Cooperation Institute (FSAI). In August we began a community. In September, we mend its heart.

This Poetry Club is the remedy for a broken heart. Our poet & hostess, the Helsinki-born poet, choreographer and jazz-dance artist Wilma-Emilia Kuosa, will open the evening by performing a set of her latest poems to set the mood.

What is it that can make you feel like there are oceans between two souls, though they might be standing next to each other? Why do some moments ache through a lifetime, though they're from another chapter of life? Some warning signs are just too good to pass by, and this is why sometimes we end up more hurt than loved… Fortunately, there have always been poets to stitch us back up again.

Then the evening becomes yours. The Poetry Club gatherings follow their own paths, but always ask you to share a favourite poem. This time, bring your favourite love poem or love song lyrics — and tissues. You may read it yourself, or, if you'd rather listen than speak, Wilma-Emilia will be glad to perform it for you.

After a warm supper together, we'll hold a short brainstorm around one question: what makes a great love poem? Wilma-Emilia will then share a few tools to help you express your heart's deepest desires in your own words, and give them a new life through poetry. No expertise required, only curiosity and the pleasure of words spoken aloud.

Whatever your heart has been carrying recently, let this be the moment to set it free in poetry.

The Evening's Supper Included with every ticket

    • Greek Chicken Feta Orzo Bowls — tender lemon-and-oregano chicken over orzo tossed with roasted tomatoes, cucumber, Kalamata olives and crumbled feta, finished with fresh herbs and a drizzle of olive oil
    •  Lemon Verbena Sparklers — cool and bright, a clean counterpoint to the salty feta and olives]
    • Rose Geranium Sparklers — warm and gently sweet, for the tissue-clutching moments
